What can you do for ME?
When was the last time you called your doctor and asked him/her what you could do for them?
Then why do so many small businesses spend so much money developing web sites all about themselves?
Once again I am looking at the competition's web sites. The Analysis goes like this:
Here is what they all seem to say.
"Business Growth"
"Great Design"
"We are the best"
"We care about you and can make your business grow"
"look at our great portfolio"
"Make your website do new tricks"
"SEO/SEF"
etc…
bla bla bla…
oh, and then there is the "Look at us" - "we are the coolest" - "of course you should choose us"
Still, it's the same thing.
Then, I came across a link from a hubspot partner:
Go ahead, click it, it will open a new window.
Part of the competition's problem is that - well, even generic stock web site templates the message is the same, look:
Click this and take a quick look
"websites that will make you stand out."
This is all well and good, it 'seems' customer oriented but first, everyone say this! So which one would you choose? Which website design company answers your problems?
Let's move back to matrixpartners.com
Seriously, these people must be real and they must be for real - (Look how big they are… ;-)
Next, listen to the tone they take.

I have recently done a great deal or branding reading and one of the subtle points was not to say "we make your life easy" like in a tagline, but to actually "BE" easy - Google would be an example. This is from a book called Emotional Branding - which would help the Acrocrete and sub brands a great deal. Donald Bergsma would HATE a picture of a Bee that is titled Bee.
"we are easy to get along with" = bla. ?are you really? Prove it to me…

back to the Matrix tone.
the testimonials are saying, concisely, exactly what people have gotten.
Here is where I made the leap
Enter exhibit 1. Click Me
Yes, of course it's a ripoff but what most of the design sites are missing is a PROFESSIONALISM. I think this captures it.
Did you read the copy next to the lady? Go back and do it if you have to. it is important. It's the wrong lady but she is a member of the St. Pete Woman's club
Now, How do you (as a potential client) feel after that? - leave your old lady jokes aside.

Moving on…
The Menu.
What do ALL design site navigations say?
Yes, that's right - About Us, Services, Portfolio, Contact
Of course! but wait, what about the customer needs?
"well, duh, they are looking for a website and someone who can make one that's cool…"
No - wait - they are actually on unfamilliar ground and need someone to speak to their needs.
Trust, Experience, Confidence.
That's where My wants (darren) I want to make strong brands, and customer needs meet, they want websites - but what they really need is someone who can help them grow on the web and let the Internet help them run their business. so what they REAlly need is Branding and Inbound Marketing. But they are not looking for this. They just want a website.
Ok, back to the menu and a concept.
Go ahead, click here for exhibit 2.
Now, the concept at the top - well, you can help me with that. I am taking it apart to see what words I need to use. Not there yet - please help!
also, i want to change "Young Businesses" to something more like 'stale business' but keep it positive. (of course i also want to design something like Google, only better! can you do that?)
The lower portion is the menu - literally.
WHY EMPOWWWER as a top level menu item - everything below is literally what will be the dropdown - then as topics on the sub page.
WHY EMPOWWWER?
- Values
- Experience
- Services
- How we help
- Contact
- Blog
PROOF - I want this concept but need a better word - my point is that this is where you get validation as you can see from the sub topics.
I would appreciate any and all comments you have - unless I am really staring at a blank wall.
Please add your comments below, then share with your friends. Maybe we can start a revolution.
